I have started a website, along with a few other undergraduate students where we will try to reach out to teenagers in hope to educate them on different social topics such as gender inequalities, civil rights, preserving nature, body image issues, loss of art in music as well as loss of appreciation of arts in school and society. In doing this we hope to start a generation that challenges social norms. We hope to bring awareness to the upcoming classes and that they help change the world. Within our website we have a blog, a page dedicated to appreciating nature and a forum. The forum is a place for people interested in our website to have a safe place to share their opinion and to discuss social topics with other individuals interested in the same topics.
Common Sense was a pamphlet that was written by Thomas Paine as a call to action within the thirteen colonies to declare and fight for independence from British rule. We decided to name our website after Paine’s work because this is our own call to action. We want to spread knowledge in order to change society. Many individuals tell themselves that one person cannot make a change in the world, many feed themselves this self doubt as an excuse from taking action. Here we believe that we can make a change because if we look back in history the world has been shaped by individuals taking initiative. Some examples are Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, William Shakespeare, Mahatma Gandhi, Simone De Beauvoir, and the list can go on and on. The world is constantly shaped by individuals, so here we are; a group of individuals trying to make our mark.
This is just the beginning of our journey.
